Peer Leader, Healthy Relationships Program

The mission of FCR is to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all survivors of trauma, including those impacted by domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, bereavement, and other causes. With the understanding that the aim of equality and justice is ongoing, we are committed to modeling diversity, inclusivity, and equity within our organization to reflect the communities in which we serve.

The Healthy Relationships Program works with high school students from the Brockton community to educate student members on what constitutes healthy and unhealthy dating practices, the causes and consequences of dating abuse, and to equip teenagers with the skills and resources to develop safe, healthy relationships of their own.

The Healthy Relationship Peer Leaders will work within a cohort of 15-18 students who – through education, specialized training, and community support – will be equipped to educate their peers about the dangers of dating violence and habits of healthy relationships. The Peer Leaders will create activities, social media content, and use other methods to spread awareness, and establish connections among community groups in the Brockton area. This position is paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour for up to 5 hours per week, from the months of October to June.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Represent varying racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

  • Commit to spreading awareness about the dangers of dating violence and learning to build healthy relationships

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and leadership skills

  • Adhere to the weekly schedule and able to participate in other community events, as needed

  • Collaborate and work respectfully with others on sensitive, and personal topics of discussion

WEEKLY COMMITMENT:

  • Meet weekly for five hours - Evenings for 2 hours, twice a week (Days TBD), and one hour of extension activity

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Commit to the agreed schedule and implementation timeline

  • Adhere to the program’s policies as designed and agreed upon by the peer leaders and the program coordinators

  • Assist in the design and delivery of programs, activities, and events

  • Treat peers with respect and understanding, and act as a role model always

  • Support efforts to recruit peers to participate in healthy relationships programming

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Able to adhere to program calendar

  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills, or willing to develop such skills
