Annual Appeal 2020
Safety Hope Dignity Acceptance
These words in our FCR logo have been aspirations for survivors of Domestic Violence for over 50 years.
A tragic reality of 2020 is that there are more victims of Domestic Violence than ever before. Just last month, Laura, six months pregnant, and with her six year old daughter Zoe in tow, came to our back porch with tears in her eyes, asking if we could help her find shelter for the night because her abusive husband had punched her, thrown her down the stairs, and locked her out of the house.
Sadly, Laura’s flight from violence and trauma is all too familiar. The statistics are staggering: Every minute 20 people in the United States are abused by an intimate partner. On a typical day, 20,000 calls are placed to Domestic Violence hotlines nationwide. And, as the cycle of violence continues, 21% of female high school students, and 13% of male high school students report being physically or sexually abused by a dating partner in the past year. Closer to home, each year over 2500 survivors turn to FCR for help.
But Laura and Zoe, and survivors like them, are not just statistics. They are people with hopes and dreams who need our help to escape life-threatening situations and begin the journey to safety, health, and dignity.
◆ Your gift of $50 will educate youth on ways to build healthy relationships and prevent family violence
◆ Your gift of $129 will provide a safe night of shelter and essential supplies for a survivor and her children fleeing violence.
◆ Your gift of $250 or more will help provide compassionate therapy for a child or adult who has experienced the trauma of a violent household
Your gift of any amount provides the compassionate support that will make all the difference!
Laura’s hope for a better life for herself and her children became real the day she came to our back porch. With the support of our FCR family of advocates and clinicians, Laura has begun to heal, she has begun to trust, she now can envision a brighter future. She was assisted in finding safe housing and enrolling Zoe in a new school, and guided to a training program that will mean a new job in the financial services field so that she can leave her abusive life of fear and despair.
Every woman, every child, every survivor who comes to FCR for help has one thing in common—You! Because you care enough to help, they will receive a second chance to lead a life of hope and dignity. Together we can save lives today and create a safer world for generations to come!
May you and your loved ones be healthy and happy this holiday season and the year ahead!
