Wayne McAllister Community Service Award
Mr. George L. Carney, Jr.
- He was born and raised in the City of Brockton, and as a mischievous young boy was far more interested in working for his parents in a bar room known as Sweeney's in downtown Brockton than in school. Mr. Carney is an icon in business. He owns and operates the Brockton Fair, Raynham Taunton Park, a trucking company and is a leader in many communities. His mantra is, "always try to do the right thing." He is a powerhouse, and surrounds himself with bright and interesting people in all areas of his life, while ensuring that he serves those less fortunate and in need of his time and attention. He is always eager to help the community of Brockton whenever he can. He deems himself a lucky man. Mr. Carney, who is 90 years young, continues to work 7 days a week all while playing golf and keeping an active social calendar. He is honored to be the recipient of the Wayne McAllister Community Wayne McAllister Community Service Award and especially happy to support Family and Community Resources.

The Brockton Commission on Women's Issues was re-established in 2017 with the purpose of providing information and education to city residents regarding issues which affect women. The Commission works to help ensure equal status of women in educational, economic, political, health, legal and social spheres and to design programs that promote equality for all women in the City. The Commission works to develop recommendations for policy changes and enhancements to all departments, divisions and agencies of the City, including the Mayor and the City Council on issues affecting women. Congratulations to Kimberly Zouzoua – Chairperson, Nicole Gatling – Vice Chair, Leona Martin – Secretary and the Commission on Women's Issues for their efforts on behalf of the women of The City of Brockton.
