Trauma and Abuse do not take a holiday. Because many victims face additional trauma during the Holiday season, FCR sponsors an annual "Adopt-a-Family" program. Each year, community response has made this program a tremendous success.

In its fifteenth year providing a little cheer during the season to victims and their families, the Adopt-A-Family Program provides many of our families with holiday gifts and holiday dinners.

People like Sally and John benefit from this program. Sally and her children are living alone after suffering horrific abuse at the hands of the one person they thought would love and protect them forever. Working full time during the day and part time on weekends to make ends meet,

Sally has no resources for her family for the Holiday. And John has been raising his young son by himself after the murder of his son's mom. Struggling to meet the demands of home and work while being vigilant about the emotional needs of his son, John has no resources for Holiday gifts.

The "Adopt-a-Family" program has three parts
. Victims are asked to create holiday wish lists for their children, and are matched with "adoptive families" who are members of our community — individuals, families, businesses or community groups. The "adoptive families" then generously donate gifts and gift cards. Meanwhile, intrepid FCR staff members volunteer their time (outside their already very busy schedules) to coordinate the program and make sure that mothers are included too.

We have seen many moms who are sweetly surprised and emotional when they arrive to pick up gifts for their children and find that they too have been remembered.

Included with gifts to FCR families are full Holiday dinners, which have been generously provided in the past by local companies. We are thankful for the generosity of the MASAC members who provided dinners in 2012.

We seek your help again this year to make the holidays brighter for families who need their community's comfort and support. It's not too late to become an adoptive family for the Holidays — we are often faced with matching a family at the last possible moment. If your family, business, fraternal, or community group can help, please call Catherine at 508-584-2185 and become an adoptive family.
